Ten Interview Questions
for The Next Big Thing
1. What is the working title
of your book? –Wolfmoon Trilogy.
2. Where did the idea come
from for the book? –I was working on a serious project and I decided to
start a fantasy to get my mind off it—and the story kept going. It seemed to
write itself.
3. What genre does your book
fall under? –Celtic fantasy with epic overtones and several love stories woven
through.
4. Which actors would you
choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? –Most would have to be
Scottish as two books of the series take place in the Scottish highlands. Book
II, Saille, the Willow, is the only
one that takes place in the U.S. –I also have several Gaelic speakers, a druid,
three alien species and many Celtic gods and goddesses. For MacCuill’s
character (druid) I would think someone like the actor who played Dumbledore in
Harry Potter or the person who played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings.
5. What is the one-sentence
synopsis of your book?--When newly pregnant Finna’s mother shows up at her door
bearing the gift of a magical moonstone, it sets off a chain of events that
will shake the foundations of three generations of women, culminating in their
participation in an epic battle to save the mystical Otherworld from being
plunged forever into darkness.
6. Will your book be
self-published or represented by an agency? –Book I, The Moonstone, has already been (self) published under my own
publishing name, Airmid Publishing. Book II, Saille, the Willow, will be out under the same heading in mid to
late September. I plan to do the same with Book III, Wolfmoon, coming out around the winter solstice of 2012.
7. How long did it take you
to write the first draft of your manuscript? –Probably around six months. But
the seven following drafts and the subsequent professional editing have taken
several years.
8. What other books would
you compare this story to within your genre? –The only one that comes to mind
is The Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet
Marillier.
9. Who or What inspired you
to write this book? --As I mentioned, this series wrote itself. I felt the hand
of the goddess coming through my own.
10. What else about your book
might pique the reader’s interest? –There’s a lot of information on herbs as
well as Celtic mythology in the books. Wolves play a big part in the narrative.
